03321 kms...
My plan was to go south after Bariloche, to see Punta Arenas and Fireland.. but the weather is working against me! In Bariloche it was already cold with heavy wind, but the forecast for south Patagonia was mucho mas worse: very strong wind, lots of rain and even colder than I´ve had so far... So sorry guys, but I´m escaping to warmer climates.
For crossing the Andes we´ve chosen the worst day ever: windspeed about 100 km/h, heavy rain and snow.... we were somewhat prepared now, but even with raingear it was very very very cold..... We didn´t even mind filling out a thousand forms at the aduana because at least we were indoors and warming up again. The Chilean side of the Cordillera was even wetter than the Argentinian side, unfortunately. We headed almost straight to the Pacific, with better weather.
02041 kms On the move! finally....
The trip started great - we had packed the moto and had everything ready for an early start and that night we had one of the worst rain and thunder I have ever seen in my life! It rained for 12
hours and the swimming pool was almost overflowing because of all the water. Lightning struck the vicinity of our house three times, and there was no electricity after lightning struck the line... But finally it stopped raining at about noon and we were ready to go!! The first time la moto had to carry so much weight but everything went really well. Buenos Aires was getting too wet, so we were heading for dryer weather! At every traffic light people yelled from cars "where are you from/going to", we draw quite a lot attention...
Well, we are finally on the move!! La moto is driving like a dream and the landscape is beautiful... but getting the motor through customs was quite a pain.. Let me just briefly explain how to temporarily import a motor into Argentina - just a warning for all of you that think of doing the same.......
We´ve been here almost two weeks and its amazing how fast time goes. So many things to see, people to meet and no time to sit in an internetcafe for some time to write everything down. Also, there are fewer internetcafes than I had expected so this is the first update. First the bad news: the motorcycle is late! Arriving December 10 instead of November 30. Damn, Liselot and this ´Che´ are going to cut some of the trip short... Strike in the harbour of Rotterdam, they say. I need a break.
